Paolo Nutini album reviews
Sunny Side Up
[5/10]
'Sunny Side Up' is the second studio album from Paolo Nutini and it is the follow up to he's successful debut effort 'These Streets' which was released in 2006 and spawned four top 40 hit singles. The Scottish singer/songwriter has self-produced the album

If you are a huge fan and have been following Paolo's career, you will love this album. If you are listening to him for the first time, you may not know what to make of him.
He is clearly moving in a different direction and “Sunny Side Up” is a much rawer album - his voice is more gravely and overall the songs are less polished.... and I love it! The album is a tremendous throwback to old soul singers, which may not be to the liking of some of his younger audience, but he deserves huge credit for taking the risk.
The highlights of the album for me are "Coming up easy", "No other way" and "Simple Things".
For me, the album is exciting because it marks a new beginning for Paolo, and as much as I like this album, and I really do like it, it is more about what is to come from Paolo in the future. He is moving in a brave new direction and in four or five years he could really be a huge force on the world stage.
For now though, "Sunny Side Up" will do very nicely.

This album is phenomenal. In the charts recently, all I've heard is dance music, R 'n' B and hip hop. What has happened to good old acoustic guitars and real soulful voices? In Sunny Side Up, Paolo shows us he is the real thing, the highlights for me being 'keep rolling' - a beautiful song with gorgeous string accompanyment. Another highlight also has to be 'Coming Up Easy' - performed incredibly live. In my eyes, Sunny Side Up is going to be a huge success. Welcome back Paolo!

I've just gotten the album and I've already listened to it 3 times through. It's amazing. I really like the wide range of musical styles used throughout. None of my friends have any idea who Paolo Nutini is (I live in America). But everything on this album is something fresh and different from what anyone else is doing, which may hurt the sales of the album, but definitely better than 'These Streets' if you ask me.

Well I've just listened to this album having quite liked his first release. I think he has aged 50 years and become an American Soul?country artist since then - this is a truly woeful dismal effort that if purchased is best regifted to grandparent! Dreadful

I absolutely loved 'These Streets' fell in love with Paolo when I saw him live. So why am I just not getting 'Sunny Side Up'?? The mix of styles on this new album just doesnt work for me. He has such an unusual and slightly wierd voice, which worked in a good way on'These Streets' but on this album seems to be over emphasised in such a way that it is now working against him. Maybe a few more listens is needed!!

Unfortunately, I'm feeling the same way. These streets is definately one of my favourite albums and as a result of it I introduced a lot of people to Paolo, but I can't seem to get my head round the new album. Paolo has an amazing voice and it just seems like he's just singing in Jamaican & country accents.
I will listen to it a few more times as I do want to like it but if not I'll just stick to these streets and hope the magic returns on the next album!

What has happened to him,he now sounds like a drunk in a dingy pub, just seen him on jonathon ross show,he is morphing into rab c nesbit, and dare I say it looks like he has some sort of difficulties....he needs to go back to his original style....

So there I was sitting in Subway eating away, and I hear this song come on the radio there. Thought it was really good and catchy and it turned out to be this guy.
Liked the track so much I went and bought the album that day! Listened to it at least twice a day since and I really enjoy it. It's very easy listening, doesn't require too much concentration, but not in a bad way.
It'd be interesting to see what other people think of the album as I'm the only one to write about it.
