Hosannas From The Basement Of Hell [9/10]

Whistlekiller Awesome. Got it on an import a month early.

Even though "Lightbringer" is too long I don't really care. Even though Jaz's vocals are further down the mix than of late, I don't really care. Hosannas is like being like being hit by whirring scythes. How in god's name does Geordie think up those chords? The new drummer Ben is easily as good as Grohl was on the last album (check out his drumming on the live DVD - Pssyche in particular), Raven is actually audible this time and they appear to have hired Freddy Kruger for the single's video!

Current favourites are Walking With Gods, Invocation and Gratitude although this could change at any minute!

Buy it as soon as you can.

gavin thurley This is a fine development on the fab 2003 outing by any definition. That these gents continue to thrill and surprise (shock and awe) is a tribute to their innovation and slant on the world at large.

"Hosannas" is a denser and more grumsome devolution of the Killing Joke ethos. A must for the lovers of heavy music with real teeth.

higgy killing joke return with there first album for eight years making possibly their best effot yet .its certainly their heaviest with abrutal onslaught of drum guitars and bass. singer jaz coleman has never sounded so disturbed at the horrors of the world his vocals ranging from golem impressions to blood curdling screams of hate and anger.killing joke still make powerful challenging music which leave the rest of the pack trailing behind

pip Manchester England: The most explosive piece of seering, gut wrenching music imaginable. Forget all other (supposedly heavy) bands-Kerrang et al, this album grips, grates and holds your brain in gear, with its unbelievable, Dave Grohl,Walker riffs that keeps the head constantly nodding in approval. Total Invasion is just that-perhaps the heaviest riff/beat of all time. God it's like my dentist using a jack-hammer. Dave Grohl's drums snap and splinter like bones cutting through sinew.I know my brain will never be free of this. Coleman's rancid voice screams ASTEROID and I peer into the darkness for one last time,(waiting for the inevitable) as the chords come crashing in. Buy it if you dare- as one last act of defiance to an insane world!!!

jmoist dallas : You either love or hate Killing Joke. If you love them, this CD is what you need. Its the power that only the Joke can provide. If you hate the Joke, the vocals of Jaz will irritate you to the point of insanity, pushed over the cliff with Geordie's blistering guitar, Dave's slamming skins and the Raven/Youth thunder bass. Yes, if you hated "Extremities...", you will certainly hate this one as well.Long live Killing Joke

Guv Grimsby England: A huge wall of sound that dwarfs everything else I've heard in a long, long time. For a band that has its roots back in the late 1970s, this is an album that blows away just about every contemporary wannabe. The second track, 'Total Invasion' is when it dawns on you that you are listening to something that could just be one of he best albums of the last 20 years. The sheer power of the vocals confirms you are in no weedy, raspy vocal territory here. And brilliant riffs, stonking bass, and pyrotechnic drumming combine to make this the most exhilerating record I've heard since Metallica's 'Master f Puppets'. Oh, and tunes to die for!

Andy One of the heaviest albums I've ever heard that doesn't sound like a parody. Jaz is utterly menacing, and would scare me if I bumped into him. Sonically very dark, with intelligent and uncompromising lyrics. KJ achieve their potential hands down on this one.
